Gianina Fillipone is a multidisciplinary artist born in Victoria, B.C., on the unceded territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt, and WSÁNEĆ peoples. Working primarily between oil painting and charcoal/mixed media drawings, she creates works which prod at the divisions between flora and fauna, urban and organic, predator and prey, animate and inanimate in order to evoke larger narratives of consumption, predation, and the uncanny. Gianina’s current work and research is concerned with developing a greater sense of internal mythology, delving into tales of vast journeys and dreadful encounters to inform her atmospheric and grotesque dreamscapes.
